Dear Colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the beautiful, colourful and vibrant Mother City. In 2016 Stellenbosch University is proud to host The Dermatological Society of South Africa’s Annual Congress in Cape Town.

After the huge success of the first combined congress in 2015 we will continue with the theme of ‘Unity in Dermatology’ and again host a combined meeting of the South African Society of Dermatological Surgery (SASDS), Vitiligo Society of South Africa (VSSA) and the Dermatological Society of South Africa (DSSA).

The congress will be from 11 to 14 August 2016.

We are very proud and excited to host this congress at the brand new Century City Conference Centre (CCCC) in Cape Town.

“This dynamic, versatile and high-tech conference centre will open in Century City, in February 2016.The conference centre, with a total capacity of 1900 in 20 venues, and 125-room-hotel are to be built around a new public square in Century City as part of an R1billion mixed use development.

Century City is a 250 hectare urban estate and hosts 5 hotels and Canal Walk, Cape Town’s premier shopping centre. It is not a concrete jungle but also home to a 16 hectare award-winning nature reserve and eight kilometres of stunning waterways and canals. This all within 10min from the Cape Town CBD and 20min drive from Cape Town International Airport.”

We will have renowned local and international speakers and our focus will primarily be on catering for the dermatologist in private practice. The international speakers already confirmed are Dr Koen de Boulle (Belgium), dr Brett Coldiron (USA), Dr Tom Rohrer (USA), Prof Thomas Ruzicka (Germany), Dr Jerry Tan (Canada) and Prof Andreas Wollenberg (Germany).

A wide range of topics will be covered in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology to meet everyone’s interests.
There will also be practical workshops as part of our pre-congress program including the highly popular University of Stellenbosch accredited cosmetic and surgical dermatology workshops. The 2016 congress will also host a practical paediatric dermatology workshop as part of the pre-congress program.

Without the pharmaceutical industry this congress will not be possible. At the 2016 congress the industry will be well represented and we believe that we will host one of the largest dermatological-pharmaceutical exhibitions ever.

Aside from the excellent scientific program we promise an exciting social program. There will also be free time to explore and indulge in everything Cape Town has to offer. The Welcome Reception and Gala Dinner will be something special this year and will give participants a chance to network while enjoying the cuisine, culture and warm hospitality of the Western Cape.

We gladly invite our local dermatologists and interested medical practitioners, but also want to welcome dermatologists from all over Africa and around the globe to attend this meeting.

I am sure the 2016 Dermatology Congress will leave a lasting impression on us all.
